“An Auction”

Dear friends and colleagues,

For the past two years Werkstatt has hosted many productions, works in progress, spontaneous experiments, and attempted to become a place that brings different communities together. For our last YES this year, we would like to gather as many of you as possible and invite you to take part in our experimental format An Auction.

An Auction is a playful format in which the exchange is acted upon the resources available and the currency responds to the needs. What can one offer? Anything really. It could be something concrete or real, such as a costume, some technical equipment you do not need anymore, a text, a studio space. Or it could be an idea - a thought one had for a project; a section of a performance you like a lot but might never do again, a consultancy session, a title, writing a text, a service of some kind, like calling a theatre for someone else. Instead of focusing on what we don’t have, we want to reexamine what is already there; challenge the capitalist approach to exchange-value and affirm the creative sustainable potential in our field!

You can witness or take part, no pressure. Through this experiment we hope to open up a conversation on the potential strategies on how to further exercise sustainability and solidarity in our field. And also, examine if, how and where could Werkstatt continue its existence.
